James T. Latting
Jim Latting joined Roemer & Harnik in 2002 to practice commercial litigation. His practice focuses on civil litigation, employment, real estate, and general business matters.
Mr. Latting is admitted to practice law in California, Washington, and Oklahoma. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, all Federal Courts in California, the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, the Tenth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Oklahoma, the Western District of Washington, and the Eastern District of Washington. Mr. Latting is Secretary-Treasurer of The Warren Slaughter-Richard Roemer American Inn of Court. Since 1992, Mr. Latting has had a peer review rating of “AV” in the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory (the “preeminent” rating, i.e. the highest rating available for both legal ability and ethical standards).
Mr. Latting was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Prior to going to law school, he served as a Legislative Assistant to U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in Washington D.C. He practiced law in Oklahoma City with the law firm of Crowe & Dunlevy and as a partner in the firm of Bratcher, Owen, Latting, Teague & Owen. His practice there emphasized commercial and oil and gas related litigation in state and federal courts. In Seattle, Washington, his practice focused on the representation of individuals and companies in commercial and environmental litigation.
Mr. Latting earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University (B.A. 1971) where he was designated a Yale National Scholar and was awarded the Frank M. Patterson Work-Study Prize for research in political science. He also played on Yale’s Freshman Squash and Varsity tennis teams. He earned his master’s degree in 1973 from the London School of Economics. He was awarded his law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law (1978) where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and of the Board of Editors of the Oklahoma Law Review.
Jim Latting was chosen to participate in the first Mediation Training Course sponsored by the Riverside County Superior Court. He sits periodically as Judge Pro Tempore and as a settlement conference judge for the Riverside Superior Court in Indio, California. He serves as a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Family YMCA of the Desert and is a graduate of Leadership Coachella Valley.
Mr. Latting is an avid tennis player who has been on senior tennis teams which have advanced to the National Championships as part of the United States Tennis Association. He also enjoys traveling and photography. Mr. Latting has traveled to South Africa on several occasions to participate in photo safaris. |
